What is black mulberry wine?
Black mulberry wine is a fruit wine made by fermenting ripe black mulberries, known as karadut in Turkish. It has a deep purple-red colour, a pronounced mulberry aroma and a balance of sweetness and gentle tartness. Mulberry trees in and around Şirince have supported a long tradition of making this variety in the village.
Taste and alcohol content
Black mulberry wines are generally semi-sweet or sweet. Alcohol content varies by producer and is often lower than in grape wines; the exact figure is stated on each bottle’s label. The product pages below list the technical details that are available.
How it differs from other fruit wines
Compared with sour cherry wine, it is darker and more concentrated, with a softer fruit profile than blackberry wine. For other styles, see the fruit wines in our Şirince wine catalogue.
